Patterson, NJ – A team of Junior and Senior competitors from Pedro’s Judo Center of Wakefield, MA dominated the Northeastern Invitational Judo Championships hosted by the Camal Judo Club in Patterson, NJ, on December 3rd, 2006. The Pedro’s team hauled in 18 medals, 11 of them gold, and took home 3 of the Special Awards: Team FORCE member Rick Hawn of Wakefield, MA was named the Outstanding Senior competitor for his Gold medal performance at 81kg. Mike Procopio of Andover, MA took the Gold medal at 90kg and received the Best Technique award for Senior competitors. Eight year old John Boyle of Boxford, MA who took home a Gold and a Bronze medal received the Best Technique award among the Junior competitors.

The team will take a short break from competition for the Holiday season before starting the 2007 season at the Starrett Cup in Brooklyn, NY on January 14, 2007.

Chris Kwmuntis, 5 years old of Peabody, MA - 1st place
Olivia Winsor, 9 years old of Lynnfield, MA - 1st place
John Boyle, 8 years old of Boxford, MA – fought two divisions and finished 1st and 3rd place
Luke Boyle – 9 years old of Boxford, MA fought two divisions and finished 1st and 1st place
Damon Kerrins, 6 years old of Lynn, MA - 3rd place
Mark Boyle – 11 years old of Boxford, MA fought two divisions and finished 1st and 2nd place
Alex Kwmuntis, 13 years old of Peabody, MA - 1st place
Riley McIlwain – 15 years old of Lynn, MA - 2nd place in Sr. Novice division
Meghan Arena, 12 years old of Medford, MA - 3rd place
Mike Procpio of Andover, MA - 1st place in 90kg Black belt division
Gerhard Zeitler, 19 years old of Germany - 1st in 66kg in Black belt division
Chris Round, 17 years old of No. Andover, MA - 2nd place in 81 kg in brown belt division
Woody Tondreau of Malden, MA - 3rd place in 81kg in Black belt division

Team FORCE Winners included:

Team FORCE is a joint program between Pedro’s Judo Center (Wakefield, MA) and the Boulder Judo Training Center (Boulder, CO). Team FORCE is a full-time resident training program for judo athletes looking not only to advance their level of success in the sport, but also to become well-rounded individuals and successful leaders within their community. Team FORCE helps produce athletes and role models made up of young people who care about their community, believe in their ability to make a difference, and assume personal responsibility for themselves and others.
