Pedro’s Judo Center Wins 8 Jr. National Judo Titles

Indianapolis, IN & Ypsilanti, MI: Over the course of the past two weekends, students from Pedro’s Judo Center in Wakefield, MA competed in two separate national judo championships - the United States Judo Association (USJA) nationals held at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 7 - 8th and the United States Judo Federation (USJF) nationals held at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI on July 14 – 15th. The Pedro’s Judo Team captured a total of 8 junior national championship titles, 22 medals overall, and finished in 2nd place in the overall team standings in the country.

One new member of the team, Kayla Harrison originally from Middletown, OH, who now resides in Wakefield, MA, won back to back titles to claim gold medals in both the USJA and USJF Nationals.

Casey Pedro won silver medals at both national tournaments as well in the girls 11 – 12 year old 48kg weight category.

Chris Round was also a double medalist finishing first at the USJA event and claiming bronze at the USJF nationals the following weekend.

Ryan Neals – North Reading, MA – Boys 11 – 12 year old Over 53kg (USJF)
Riley McIlwain – Lynn, MA – Boys 15 – 16 year old Under 81kg (USJA)
Chris Round – No. Andover, MA – Boys 17 – 20 year old Under 81kg (USJA)
Kayla Harrison – Wakefield, MA – Girls 17 – 20 year old Under 70kg (USJA & UJSF Nationals)
